First 30 days

Obama's First 30 days. You decide his grade.1. Close GITMO within one year. PROBLEM: Obama made this executive order giving into politics instead of using smart policy. Obama ordered the prison closed, but failed to produce a plan as to where the enemy combatants kept at GITMO will be sent, what kind of trials they will face, what they will be defined as (enemy combatants, POWs, People from distant lands that tried to kill soldiers but now get the rights of a US citizen), and what we are going to do with future detainees. However, Obama did leave a loophole, indicating that he would keep part of GITMO open for the "worst of the worst". I think Bush called them the "worst of the worst" once, except he wasn't THEIR President, so everyone was up in arms over it.2. Pass the largest transfer of power to the Government from the Private sector in a 780 Billion Dollar "stimulus" bill. PROBLEM: The bill contains over 65% NEW GOVERNMENT SPENDING, and less than 35% "Tax cuts". Not to mention that for individuals making less than 75,000 per year, the "tax cut" will be a $13.00 per paycheck credit, not really a tax cut. Also, his "tax cuts" are not for 95% of Americans, as he claimed during his candidacy. The bill contains pork projects galore, and a Democratic Wish List, but nothing to really stimulate the economy. The CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE, indicated that the stimulus bill may meet short time job goals in the first year, but will fail to meet goals after that point, and will actually decrease the Gross Domestic Product, one of the primary indicators in a recession, more than if we would have done NOTHING! Smart move, I don't think so. In addition to all of this, the PROMISE that Obama made to let the public view any emergency or high level bill for five days prior to voting NEVER HAPPENED. In fact, the 1,073 page bill was not even read by 95% in congress and the senate, and was not even viewable in the final version until after it was passed. By the way, Obama said we were in dire straights, and had to vote on the bill RIGHT AWAY. Then, after it passed Congress on Friday, he decided to take a long weekend back in Chicago, only to take up the bill on Tuesday at a photo op in Denver, CO. Nice one. And finally, Obama's own cabinet comes out and states that they cannot say if it will really create any jobs or not. Well played3. Stop the military tribunal for Abu al-Nashiri, the mastermind behind the USS COLE bombing that killed 17 American sailors off the coast of Yemen. After Obama ordered the suspension, Military Judge James Pohl refused the President's order, until another judge, prodded by Obama indicated that the charges would be dropped without prejudice. That's what we should do, let them all go, too bad over 60 of the released detainees have already been killed or captured once again fighting American troops for the second time.4. Obama promises to take on Pakistan during the campaign, indicating that Pakistan was the primary problem around Afghanistan. Pakistan has now declared Sharia, or Islamic Law, in the North tribal regions, giving in to Taliban requests. What have we heard from President Obama on the matter....NOTHING5. TARP II and the SECOND STIMULUS PACKAGE have been brought up by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, indicating that more money will have to be thrown into the Troubled Assets Relief Program, which failed once under the Bush Administration, and will fail again. And how much more money do we want to add to the newly added 1 Trillion dollars debt. Well, it turns out that with the continued stimulus spending, the total will be 3.3 Trillion dollars, after the 787 Billion dollars in interest is added on (because we are borrowing money that doesn't exist) in addition to the inflation that will occur due to the printing of more money. This could end up costing taxpayers 46,700 per household in taxes over ten years. That makes the 13.00 per two weeks look pretty small, don't you think?6. Cabinet Members....don't get me started. Obama proclaimed to be the transparency king, and wanted to get rid of the status quo. Then he started picking cabinet members-Tom Daschle, Health and Human Services, Failed to pay $130,00 in taxes-Timothy Geithner, Treasury Secretary (head of IRS), failed to pay $40,000 in taxes-Bill Richardson, Commerce Secretary, withdrew name after investigation into awarding state contracts through pay for play- Judd Gregg withdraws Commerce Secretary position, after indicating that Obama had no interest in reaching across the aisle, and Gregg had fundamental and sincere differences in fiscal responsibility than what was included in the Stimulus billLet's just keep all the normal problems in the cabinet, not paying federal taxes? Why not run the IRS?7. Obama put the "Buy American" clause in the new Stimulus bill. After the European Union threatened a trade war, Obama removed the clause.8. Bush had received downright hatred from the left for using Predator drones to attack high value targets in Pakistan and along the Afghanistan border. Obama criticized the use of the drones, and said that all they do is kill innocent women and children. Then in the first ten days, the Obama administration launches 30 strikes into Pakistan.9. First major FEMA response.....nowhere to be found. As Obama was posing for cameras, tauting his "bi-partisan" stimulus package, an ice-storm rocked the lower midwest, killing 42 people, and leaving over 1 million without electricity in tempatures from 5 to 20 degrees. Oklahoma to West Virginia was affected, and it was Five days before the first FEMA assistance was available. Even though Katrina was a debacle, the Gulf coast was actually declared a disaster area two days prior to the storm hitting. The ice storm swept the country Jan 30...the declaration by Obama was on Feb. 5th. Now Kanye, Does Obama hate white people??10. Big campaign promise to get votes, Obama promised to give $3,000 tax credits to businesses for every job they create, or worker they hire. Then that was thrown out the window with the new stimulus plan. But he did add in 500 to 1000 dollar tax credits for people in the United States illegally, who don't pay taxes in the first place. Well done.Enough bitchin' for tonight. I am tired.

Frustration, A Killer, Our new curse

I cannot believe the policy changes that have been put in place over the past two weeks. To indicated that they are irresponsible is an understatement. Not to mention that the scrutiny of the Obama policies has been few and far between, as he is the chosen one. I have been trying to give him credit, and let his term play out, but he has indicated, already, that he has a political agenda in hand, and no policy credentials. The most frustrating policy so far is Guantanamo Bay, "Gitmo" (although I believe the Economic Socialist Bill takes a close second, and soon to take over number one).I want you all to remember this name.....Abd al-Rahim al-NashiriCharges against Al-Nashiri were dropped today by the Obama administration, and he will more than likely be released shortly. Al-Nashiri killed 17 Americans on the USS Cole, that was in port of the coast of Yemen in October of 2000. The following are the names of those killed:

Hull Maintenance Technician Second Class* Kenneth Eugene Clodfelter, 21, of Mechanicsville, Va. Electronics Technician Chief Petty Officer* Richard Costelow, 35, of Morrisville, Pa. Mess Management Specialist Seaman Lakeina Monique Francis, 19, of Woodleaf, N.C. Information Systems Technician Timothy Lee Gauna, 21, of Rice, Texas Signalman Seaman* Cherone Louis Gunn, 22, of Rex, Ga. Seaman James Rodrick McDaniels, 19, of Norfolk, Va. ***Engineman Second Class Marc Ian Nieto, 24, of Fond du Lac, Wis.***Electronics Warfare Technician Second Class* Ronald Scott Owens, 24, of Vero Beach, Fla. Seaman* Lakiba Nicole Palmer, 22, of San Diego, Calif. Engineman Fireman Joshua Langdon Parlett, 19, of Churchville, Md. Fireman* Patrick Howard Roy, 19, of Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y. Electronics Warfare Technician First Class* Kevin Shawn Rux, 30, of Portland, N.D. Mess Management Specialist Third Class Ronchester Manangan Santiago, 22, Kingsville, Texas Operations Specialist Second Class Timothy Lamont Saunders, 32, of Ringgold, Va. Fireman Gary Graham Swenchonis Jr., 26, Rockport, Texas Ensign Andrew Triplett, 31, of Macon, Miss. Seaman* Craig Bryan Wibberley, 19, of Williamsport, Md.

The second surviving perperator of the USS Cole bombing, Jamal Mohammad Ahmad Al Badawi, had been captured and placed in Yemeni prison. However, Al Badawi was released by Yemeni officials based on the promise that he would no longer participate in terrorist attacks. This is a disservice to the citizens of the United States, the families of the USS Cole victims, and the world. We are now at risk to have yet another Gitmo Detainee conduct operations against the United States for a second time (as over 60 have already done). This is pathetic, and sickening. But what can we do, the people of the United States have spoken, and we have chosen an empty suit politician, willing to do whatever it takes for approval ratings and ego priming. Get a backbone America, and for once realize that Bush was right when he said there was EVIL in this world. We are letting EVIL out, and I am ashamed of that fact.

A Welcome Home(coming)

Yesterday I was honored to attend the welcome home ceremony for Fox Company, 2/24 Marines. It had been a rainy, and dark morning, and the clouds did not appear to be dissipating at all. However, no matter what the weather, it was certainly a day of celebration, remembrance, and memorial. As the families gathered through the hangars at the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 128th Air Refueling Wing, a sense of urgency and excitement was building. The banners hanging on the wall, the smiles and worried faces throughout the crowd, and the families waiting to see their loved ones energized the room. You could see girlfriends, wives, fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters waiting in the most impatiently patient way, with legs bouncing, hands tapping; anything to keep the time moving until they could see their loved ones again. The message went out via text message. The marines were over Milwaukee, and were going to be landing shortly. As a white and blue aircraft flew by and landed on the runway in front of a gathering crowd, you could hear the feet clamoring to get to the fence, as close as they could to the tarmac where that plane was going to pull up.The plane began to taxi, and signs went shooting up into the air. Hands began waiving, people began crying, and the cheers began to ring through the thick summer air. As the plane drew closer, the Navy band, dressed in their Navy white, began playing, filling the hangar with music. The instruments beamed gold while reflecting the bright sunshine. The clouds had parted, and the sun was shining brightly as the plane pulled up to the tarmac; no rain, no clouds, no dreariness, but overwhelming joy. There seemed to be a reason for this. Two marines were not coming home physically on this day. Cpl. Ricky Nelson and LCpl. Dean Opicka were lost in combat on April 14, 2008 to a roadside bomb. Although they did not physically step off the plane, they had been with the Marines the whole time; in the desert, in the air, and in their hearts. They had cleared the path for those Marines, as they made their final trip home. As Moses once parted the seas, Nelson and Opicka parted the clouds, to let the warmth of the summer, WISCONSIN sun, shine upon the waiting families. As the Marines began filing down the plane steps onto the hot concrete tarmac, family members began to pick out their loved ones in the crowd. Names rang out, louder and louder by the minute. The Marines remained professional, waiting to form-up for the last time, before heading to see their families. As the last Marine stepped off the plane and filed in, the excitement became unbearable. The Marines came at attention, and then were let go to reunite with the ones they loved.Tears began falling, smiles beamed bright, and warm embraces were being shared all around. The colors of Marine Digital camo mixed with the blue and black mission shirts for the 2/24, and homemade t-shirts with family names on them. Two Marines did not come home, but two woman carried on their mission, their memory, and their grace. They showed strength, dignity, determination, and support to the Marines that had served with Nelson and Opicka. Although their Marines were not coming home, they welcomed home their brothers in arms, with open arms.Major Rosales addressed the crowd, describing the mission as operationally successful, but personally very difficult. Maj. Rosales had not returned with all of his Marines, and he pointed out the banner behind him, that beared the names of Richard Nelson and Dean Opicka. Rosales addressed the men, had them stand at attention, and then:Dismissed.Although Fox Company, 2/24 Marines have returned, we must not forget those who still fight for us and others in foreign lands. We must not forget those who will not be stepping off of that welcome home aircraft, and we must remember the families of those service members.I know I have become a better person through knowing two people, one since college, but only recently reunited through tragedy, and one only through distantly watching her strength in family and God. Katy and Kristen are two of the strongest people I know, and I hope someday, I am as strong as they are.I only wish I could do more.Semper Fi.

Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,
I cannot help but write you a letter about the current status of our great nation, and the people that make up this "city on the hill." Over the past two years, I have seen this nation take a downward turn. Like many Americans, democrat, republican, libertarian, and green, I have been trying to determine what your game plan is for the America that I have grown up in, and grown to love. I would like to lay out a couple of questions based on promises that you made during your campaign to help me collect my thoughts.#1. On March 27, 2008, with the Democratic and Republican primary elections in full swing, you made the promise of complete transparency, and an offer to revolutionize the way that bills and packages are passed. You promised to offer three days of public viewing before bills are passed, as well as a "change" from the status quo in Washington. I have been amazed at your tact so far in putting this to use. So far, all packages and bills passed (with the exception of Executive Orders that are strictly done by you), none of the bills or packages have been posted for public viewing prior to vote. The largest spending, so called "stimulus" package ever to be brought to Congress was passed without one......NOT ONE......member of congress reading the package. In fact, you did not read the package. How can anyone blame them? The 1100 page stimulus and 800 page TARP II package were introduced and vote on within one day. With no transparency, pork from both parties, and no knowledge of what was actually in the bill, you made the situation sound dire, as if the government was going to stop functioning, and everything would go south. Then, with no republican votes, and 11 democrats voting against the package, you signed it into law. Now, we sit here, complaining about AIG, and the CEO bonuses that were given out with taxpayer money. You, D-Chris Dodd, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi come out to speak against the bonuses, and ask for NAMES, and say how disappointed you are with the Greed of these CEOs. You, Dodd, and Barney Frank then go on the defensive, and say that you never knew about the bonuses, and that it was part of the Bush Agenda. Then, reluctantly, you indicate that there was a part of the huge stimulus bill, written by Chris Dodd, that allowed the CEOs of AIG to take all contractual bonuses from before Feb. 11, 2009 (all of the bonuses handed out). Because you did not read your own huge stimulus bill, YOU allowed this to go through. You could have taken a stand and owned up to your campaign promise, but you didn't, in more ways than that. But, hey, The top two recipients of AIG campaign funds were Chris Dodd, followed closely by YOU, Mr. President. Wouldn't want to bite the hand that feeds you?#2. Throughout the campaign, you claimed that George W. Bush did not take care of our troops. You claimed that you would do everything in your power to help the troops, and get the care they deserve. The system of our Veterans Affairs system is in desparate need of repair, but your idea of repair is beyond reprehensible. Yesterday, you and Rahm Emmanuel, came out with a plan to save 400-500 million for the VA (supposedly) per year, by making our Wounded Warriors pay for their care out of their own pocket, and with private insurance. This is NOT the care I thought our troops deserved. Thirteen veterans groups came out actively against the proposal, and VA officials indicated that the plan should be thrown out. Reluctantly, you threw out the plan just five hours ago, due in large part because both the majority of Democrats and Republicans said it would not go through with any support. Good message to send though, right? You are willing to spend 900 million on repairing the Gaza Strip, a breeding ground for the very terrorists that wound our soldiers and our allies, but you wanted to make our troops pay their way after giving life and limb for their country? Oh, not to mention 30 BILLION dollars of your bailout went to funding FOREIGN BANKS. Our taxpayer money paying for foreign banks, and not our Wounded Veterans. Hmm?#3. You seem to be sending a very mixed message about numerous issues. You constanlty run on the campaign of civil rights, and owning up to help groups. But the reality is that you don't want to help these groups, because they will not need you. An example is gay marriage. The LGBT groups unanimously voted for you during the election, hoping for marriage, and benefits rights. You came out, along with Joe Biden and stated that you do NOT support gay marriage, but then you come out and say you will advocate for new rights. Which is it sir? You also said you were going to help out with immigration, and you have a speaker of the house that claims that illegals coming into the United States create jobs, and are patriotic. No matter what you can say, they broke the law to get here, they are collecting our citizens taxpayer money, in our country, and bail out at any sign on trouble. Tell the people going through the proper immigration and naturalization process about what is happening. They may feel a little, "jipped". WE ARE NOT A NATION OF VICTIMS, AND UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT REALIZES THIS, WE WILL PERPETUATE THE VERY MIND SET THAT GOT US HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Finally, you ran a campaign against the War in Iraq, indicating you wanted troops out in a year. I agree with your current plan to phase out troops, and leave a residual force, and I applaud you for taking that stance, but that wasn't what you were elected on. Now you are talking about going into Pakistan on a regular basis to take out targets, something that Bush didn't even touch. What is your stance? Please tell me, I may be pleasantly suprised, but I don't think your democratic friends will be.#4. Mr President, you have stated that you are throwing the "politics of fear" out the window, and replacing them with hope and change. However, I haven't been able to ignore the fact that you simply use fear mongering, just in a different way. To you, George Bush used the "politics of fear" to wage his war on terrorism. You claimed he used fear to keep the nation at war, and protect the United States for nearly eight years after 9/11. Now you use the politics of fear to wage a wars against America, and its ideals. You claim that we must spend more money, or the government will collapse. However, you throw in trillions of dollars of spending that DO NOT have any place in an economy such as this, and simply further the financial troubles of this country. You discuss the minority perspective that global warming is moving faster than ever (researchers say they only need one more year to prove it false), you want cap and trade, to limit greenhouse emissions, which would simple drive up prices for businesses and everyday americans. You have done enough. We are going to pay for all of this spending eventually, because we surely don't have the money now. What if China no longer takes on our debt? Have you ever thought about the fact that this isn't the time to raise the prices of everday commodoties for Americans. Instead of going out on a whim, and stating an agenda, please promise to take your time, and think things through? It would be a welcome change from your first three months. Finally, I still believe that you are getting a "pass" right now. America just went through 8 years of Bush Bashing, and endless rhetoric of how terrible he was. Now, all of a sudden, when you take on his national security policies (with the exception of GITMO), you are hailed, and hoisted up. You can fill out an NCAA bracket, while the nation falls apart, but nobody says a word. I, understand that the NCAA bracket really holds no significance, but let me ask you this; Do you think if Bush would have spent ten minutes filling out the bracket, people would be laughing, and discussing his Final Four? I am pretty sure it would be a media field day, talking about how Bush was "sleeping on the job", and ignoring the enormous problems facing our nation. Remember, when Bush stayed in a classroom for seven minutes after he was informed of 9/11, he was crucified. People did not say that it was necessary, as the Air Force, and Secret Service were weighing options on how to remove the President of the United States to his safe location in an effective and safe manner, or that Bush was trying to hold composure in one of the most trying instances in US history. I wonder if you pandering to the Mickey Mouse Club Media with your brackets, dog talk, and jovial jokes will last long. In my opinion, when they see that you are simply a talking head, with a teleprompter, and no truth to back up your statements, that glossy finish you hold onto so tightly will gradually slip away.
